Terry Enepekides is co-president
of Gloco Accents, along with partner Danny Carbone. The on-line
Montreal-based firm offers unique items, ranging from candles that blaze
with colored flames to animal-shaped pillows. Terry
Enepekides tells Burke Campbell what motivated him to become an entrepreneur.
THE LONG FRIENDSHIP: “Danny and I are both from immigrant families. Our
parents insisted we have the best education. We met in 1982 at our
entrance exams at a private Montreal school. I was only ten years old. We’ve been best
friends since.”
EDUCATION AND AFTER: “After college, Danny worked with his family and I
pursued a graduate degree in accounting. In time, I became the Chief
Accounting Officer of TIW, an international mobile phone operator. But in
2005, the company was sold. Suddenly, the future was wide open. Danny was
ready to make a move, too. We decided to create our own company.”
DESIGNING A COLLECTION: “We
assembled a unique line of products, items that delight, amaze, and
comfort.”
LIFT-OFF: “We started Gloco
Accents in 2006. Already, we’ve got over 3000 customers across
North America, selling to Disney and other retailers like Green
Earth.”
SHARED PHILOSOPHY: “Danny and I,
we just don’t give up. People see that, they trust that. That’s what
sustains relationships, between people and in business. Life isn’t just
about making money. It’s about fun, family, friendship.”
