Mac
MacIsaac, along with wife Rosemary, run MacIsaac Kiltmakers (www.mackilts.com)
Located in St. Peter’s,
Nova Scotia
, Mac MacIsaac tells
the Financial Post what motivated
him to become an entrepreneur.
Opportunity: “I grew up in
PEI
and came to
Toronto
for work, where I met
Rosemary. Both Maritimers at heart, we moved back to
Nova Scotia
, and married.”
The
needle’s power: “I worked in security at a department store while
Rosemary made dresses for local customers. When our daughter was young, she
made her a classic Scottish kilt. Other mothers would admire it and place
orders. Demand grew.”
Global
culture: “In 2000, I could quit my job to establish the business. We sell
to men and women, whether tourists or online, shipping across
North America
,
Europe
,
Australia
, and even
Hong Kong
. The kilt is part of
Scottish culture, community, and music that reaches around the globe.”
Finest:
“Each kilt is hand-stitched heirloom quality, using eight yards of cloth
and completed in 15 hours. Our customers are individuals and groups like
regiments or marching bands.”
Good
life: “It’s gratifying to live in a beautiful small town and cater to
customers all over the world.”
