Frank Scott and partner Brian Freeman run
The Lunar Rogue Pub ( www.lunarrogue.com ), in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Frank Scott tells the Financial Post what
motivated him to become an entrepreneur.
Early Training: “I
met Brian in the Air Cadets, which offered leadership training, and a lot
of other skills. As teenagers, we worked in the canteen, ran it as a
recreation centre for all the cadets. It’s where we got our first taste
of business.”
Lifelong
Buddies: “From the
beginning, Brian and I found we could discuss our ideas together. This
easy rapport helped us avoid making snap decisions that could have led to
serious setbacks.”
Early
Success: “In 1976, we opened The Old Chestnut. The following year, CBC
Radio voted us one of the best folk clubs in
Canada
. We sold it in 1979. In 1988, we opened The Lunar
Rogue. For nearly twenty years, it’s been a place where people want to
gather.”
Global
Reputation: “We stock over two-hundred brands of whiskey. For that,
Whiskey Magazine of the UK
named us one of the best bars in the world.”
The
Reward: “The Lunar Rogue is a place where people can feel they belong.
Many ‘regulars’ have their personal mug hanging behind the bar. Folks
feel welcome here. Everyone knows you by name. Cheers.”
