Bruce
Patterson, along with wife Angela Desveaux, runs Cloud Nine Creative (www.cloudninecreative.com).
The Vancouver-based multimedia company specializes in wedding videos, and
also publishes the wedding magazine, WedLuxe. Bruce Patterson
tells the Financial Post what
motivated him to become an entrepreneur.
Star-crossed
lovers: “I worked as a first-grade teacher, while my wife Angela was
employed as a graphic designer. Wanting more freedom, she eventually went
solo.”
Evolving a
dream: “Angela became busy, designing wedding announcements and
invitations. Fascinated with cameras since childhood, it seemed natural
for me to film our friends’ weddings.”
Entrepreneurial union: “Eventually, my wife created WedLuxe, a glossy
wedding magazine and I left my job to film weddings full-time. Cloud Nine
Creative combines our various talents.”
Niche market:
“I film 20 to 25 weddings per year, costs ranging from $5,000 to $12,000
in Canada, and higher abroad. We get global assignments, mostly from
referrals. I film the wedding day, and from the raw footage, my team makes
a video about 35 minutes long. This ‘mini-movie’ makes for heartfelt
cinematic viewing, leaving our customers excited by the beauty, quality,
and originality of the work.”
The magazine:
“Some of the weddings are also covered in WedLuxe magazine, which is
available at outlets like Indigo and Chapters.”
Happy pupil:
“Learning from my wife, I became an entrepreneur. Now, I enjoy leading a
busy, interesting life.”
